BUCKSPORT — Bucksport residents are discussing the future of their town in the aftermath of the shutdown of the Verso paper mill.
The mill shut down production this month, putting more than 500 people out of work. Its owner has announced plans to sell the facility to a Canadian metal recycler. The town of about 5,000 residents is bracing to lose nearly half of its tax base with the closure of the mill. Town Manager Derik Goodine says the town is looking to residents to brainstorm ideas about how to revitalize.
The meeting is scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday at the Middle School Performing Arts Center.
