CARTHAGE — Two people were injured Monday morning after two vehicles collided on a bridge on Route 142, also known as Carthage Road, Franklin County sheriff’s Lt. David Rackliffe said.

Makaila Conley, 19, of Rumford was driving south when she lost control of the car as she was negotiating a corner, he said.

Halfway through the corner is a bridge, and Conley’s vehicle collided with a car driven by James Eustis, 57, of Phillips, who was traveling in the opposite direction. He tried to avoid the crash but had no place to go because of guardrails on the bridge, Rackliffe said.

Both drivers received minor injuries and were taken by Med-Care ambulance service to Rumford Hospital in Rumford.

Conley’s 2006 Ford Focus and Eustis’ 2010 Ford Focus were heavily damaged, Rackliffe said.

Cpl. Nate Reid went to Rumford Hospital to do follow-up interviews with the drivers. Both had already been taken by ambulance to the hospital before Rackliffe arrived at the accident reported at 5:24 a.m.

Carthage and Weld fire departments responded to assist. The road was down to one lane until the accident scene was cleared.
