PARIS — A South Paris man has been charged with felony assault after allegedly attacking two women at their home in Otisfield.

Robert L. Sanborn Jr., 35, of Elm Hill Road, was arrested by the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday and taken to the Oxford County Jail in Paris. He has been charged with felony aggravated assault, a Class B crime carrying a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, as well as two misdemeanor charges of domestic assault.

According to an affidavit signed by Deputy Nathan Bowie, Sanborn and the two women were involved in a verbal argument on Dec. 26, which escalated when he allegedly pinned and choked one of the women and forcefully pushed the other away when she tried to get him to stop.

One of the women is pregnant.

Police responded to an incident in Otisfield on Dec. 27 after a third-party complaint. Sanborn and the two women said the incident was nothing more than a verbal argument, according to the affidavit.

Later that evening, police received a phone call from one of the women, who said she initially misled police out of fear of reprisal.
