WEST PARIS — The First Universalist Church of West Paris schedule of January worship services is announced.

Worship services are offered on varied topics by guest speakers and the worship service committee at 9 a.m. followed by refreshments.

Jan. 4: “Justice and Redemption” led by the Rev. Fayre Stephenson. Using Bryan Stevenson’s new book, “Just Mercy,” as a guide, she will explore the broken system of justice and the potential for mercy to redeem. Stephenson leads services at the church at least twice a month.

Jan. 11: “The Growth of Generosity.” Maryli Tiemann will be guest speaker from the Unitarian Universalist Church of Brunswick. She is one of the founders of Brunswick’s Longfellow Days, a monthlong celebration of poetry and the life of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

Tiemann was raised a Michigan Roman Catholic, floundered into Maine in the 1970s, was surprised to actually be Buddhist and continues to stumble among surprising gifts of nature, friendship and family.

Jan. 18: “The Social Gospel,” led by Stephenson. Clarence Skinner, Universalist theologian, preached “The Social Gospel” as “A Complete Program for Completing Humanity.” The congregation will take a look at the Universalist roots in social justice as they remember Clarence Skinner.
