RUMFORD — Several Mountain Valley High School alumni helped organize a benefit dinner and show scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, at the Rumford American Legion to help restore Muskie Auditorium, which suffered severe damage from a leaking roof in the spring.
American Legion Post 24 Commander Tricia Thurston said that she was contacted by former Mountain Valley High School student Ashleigh Milligan about hosting a benefit supper to help with Muskie Auditorium repairs.
“We try and support the community any way we can, and sometimes, the way we can help is by hosting benefit dinners,” Thurston said. “The Legion members cook the supper, and the school is able to raise money toward repairing the auditorium roof.”
On the Facebook page for the event, Milligan said that the insurance money the school received “didn’t cover all the repairs.”
The cost of the dinner and show together is $12. Dinner only is $8 and the show is $5.
The dinner will begin at 4:30 p.m., and the show will last from 7 to 11:30 p.m.
The show will feature performances by Milligan, along with former Mountain Valley students such as Alexa Fryover, Bernard Sanabria, Alysha Laurinaitis, Heather-Anne Arsenault, Troy Pingree and Mark Garrido.
Milligan said that the main reason she organized the event was because “we think it is equally important for all kids to have the option and outlet to express their feelings through art.
“We figured if we could raise money for the auditorium, it would help cover whatever the insurance didn’t,” Milligan said.
Milligan said that residents unable to attend the program can watch the event at www.ustream.tv/channel/mvhs-auditorium-benefit.
