NORWAY — Weekend access to the Roberts Farm Preserve Warming Hut will start Dec. 27, pending snow. Volunteers will keep the hut warm for skiers and trail users from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays throughout the season.

Access to Nordic ski and snowshoe equipment is provided free for use on-site for the SAD 17 community during those times.

Roberts Farm is at 64 Roberts Road and offers 13 kilometers of groomed Nordic trails and 3.5 kilometers of snowshoe trails.

The next biathlon at Roberts Farm Preserve is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 28, provided we get additional snow before that date. Check the Trust website at www.wfltmaine.org and Facebook for updates.

These events are wonderful opportunities to experience the sport of biathlon. Air rifles are provided. And if anyone wants to compete and needs Nordic skis, classic skis, boots and poles can be provided.

In biathlon competitors will have a mass ski start and will ski three laps (1k or 2k) interspersed with recumbent shooting two rounds, five shots each at stationary targets. Short penalty loops are skied for every shot missed.

Registration will open at 9:30, air-rifle target practice will be offered 10-10:45. The 3 x 1k and 3 x 2k races will start at 11 followed by awards. Cost is $10 for adults, $5 for students.

The Trust is always looking for volunteers to help with timing and at the target area. Contact Lee Dassler at the Western Foothills Land Trust at 739-2124.
