WILTON — A Wilton man was charged with murder Sunday in connection with Saturday’s death of his grandmother, authorities said.
Dana Craney, 22, was being held Sunday night at the Franklin County jail in Farmington, according to a news release on Sunday by Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety. Craney was arrested on the murder charge early Sunday.
Police said they found the body of his 67-year-old grandmother, Joanne Goudreau, on Saturday in the backyard of the mobile home in which the two lived together at 1130 Weld Road.
Wilton police officers were called to the home by relatives at about 4 p.m. Saturday to check on the woman’s well- being and found her body.
Craney was at the home at the time and was taken by officers to the Farmington Police Department for questioning.
After consulting with the Maine Office of the Attorney General overnight, Craney was charged with murder early Sunday morning, McCausland said.
McCausland said detectives will not say how they believe Goudreau died until they have the results of an autopsy the state medical examiner was scheduled to do Sunday in Augusta.
Those results were not available late Sunday.
