AUGUSTA (AP) — Authorities say the death of a 64-year-old Waterville man being held at the Kennebec County Jail does not appear suspicious.

Sheriff Randall Liberty told the Kennebec Journal (http://bit.ly/16pqO4b ) that Dana Kitchin was alone in a cell last Friday when a guard making a routine check found him unresponsive and with a low pulse.

The jail’s medical team tried to revive him but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kitchin, who was arrested by Waterville police last Wednesday on a criminal trespass charge, appears to have died because of an unspecified medical problem. He was placed in isolation because of disruptive behavior.

Per protocol, the death is under investigation by state police.

In an unrelated case, a 33-year-old man died at the Cumberland County Jail on Sunday.
