MONTPELIER, Vt. — FairPoint says it’s working to restore service for thousands of customers across Vermont and part of New Hampshire who’ve lost their high-speed Internet service.

The company said it’s working “as quickly as we safely can to make repairs.”

The company didn’t say how many customers lost service Thursday in Vermont and New Hampshire. Maine customers are not affected.

The outage knocked out several municipal websites, including those in Nashua and Manchester in New Hampshire.

It was unclear if the widespread outages had anything to do with an ongoing strike by about 1,800 FairPoint workers in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. Further details weren’t available.
