PERU — At Monday night’s meeting, selectmen announced that they will meet with the Friends of Peru Elementary School on Monday, Dec. 8, at 5 p.m., prior to their regular 6 p.m. selectboard meeting.
Residents recently voted to return oversight of the old school to the selectmen, with the Friends of Peru Elementary School providing management services for the Peru Community Center.
The Friends of Peru Elementary School has been operating the facility under a lease agreement. In the future, they will manage the Community Center while the selectboard will oversee the facility. Selectmen have determined that under the new agreement, the Friends of Peru Elementary School will need to submit bills to the Town Office and have payment approved by the selectmen before they can access the $10,000 approved by residents in the November election.
In other business, selectmen discussed a letter from Randy and Christine Oldham, which questioned the taxes assessed on an old trailer that is no longer used as a residence. The Oldhams now reside part-time in a motor home parked on the property.
Selectman Jim Pulsifer suggested that the Oldhams be notified that the property will be looked at in the spring when an assessor updates the tax rolls. Any assessment changes will be effective on next year’s taxes.
Selectboard Chairman Lee Merrill said that the best solution would be to remove the trailer if it is no longer being used.
Planning Board member Wayne Moore asked the selectmen what they planned to do about houses on non-conforming lots and a residence that has been changed from part-time to full-time occupancy without securing the proper permits.
Selectmen said they would have the licensed plumbing inspector examine the property for violations. The owners and locations of the property have not been disclosed.
Selectmen secretary Angela Barkhouse announced that the recent test of the Worthley Pond Spring water showed it to be free of coliform and E. coli bacteria.
