Yes, the U.S. is a nation of immigrants. As far as I know, there were no immigration laws in effect in the early days and most immigrants came voluntarily because they wanted a better life. Others were forced to come here under duress.
Allegedly, there are 2.5 million young children in America who are living in abject poverty. What is this nation doing to help them?
America sends millions of dollars in aid to other countries. I have to wonder how much of that actually reaches those in need. I think it is questionable.
Now, President Obama wants to include 5 million illegal immigrants to the equation. My concern is, how many of those people will work to better their lives and how many will just end up in the already overburdened welfare system?
America cannot support the world.
