RANGELEY — Residents of Regional School Unit 78 voted 19-0 Tuesday to spend up to $26,600 for architectural design services for the proposed addition and renovations to Rangeley Lakes Regional School.

The money will come from the capital reserve fund.

The vote followed a sparsely attended public hearing. It is the first formal step in the project after a panel from Oak Point Associates of Biddeford met with the public last week to explain the scope of its plans and ask for input.

At the School Board meeting after the hearing Tuesday, Superintendent Susan Pratt said the high school Interact Club is large this year, and will need a bus to travel to the Senior Dinner hosted by the Rotary at the Saddleback lodge.

The school will have seven trees, each decorated with a different theme, in this year’s Parade of Trees, which takes place Saturday, Dec. 6. Student board member Jake Farmer volunteered to represent the board at the annual lighting of Rangeley’s Giving Tree on Wednesday, Dec. 3.

Following up on the evening’s public vote, Virginia Nuttall of the Building Committee gave a brief report of last week’s public meeting with the architects. Another informational public meeting with a straw poll will take place in February. The final vote is scheduled for May.
