FRYEBURG — Turkey dinners have been delivered to dozens of needy families throughout southern Oxford County by members of the town’s police, fire and rescue departments.
“Citizens were extremely grateful for receiving the baskets and, in some cases, had tears,” police Chief Joshua Potvin said in a statement Tuesday after the deliveries were made.
Donations came from area businesses, including Hannaford supermarket in North Conway, N.H., Hill Farms, Poland Spring and Fryeburg Healthcare.
Fryeburg police officers, Fryeburg Rescue members and volunteers delivered 42 dinners this year to residents of Fryeburg, Lovell, Stow and Brownfield. The dinners included turkey, cans of corn, cranberry sauce, peas, green beans, jars of gravy, a box of stuffing, five pounds of potatoes and a jar of pickles. There were also assorted rolls and desserts, he said.
“Our officers are honored to take part in this opportunity of giving again this year,” Potvin said. “This is our way of giving back to the less than fortunate members of our community. We hope to make their holiday a pleasurable one.”
