1949 – 2014

WELD—John E. Martin, 65, of Weld, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Wednesday, Nov. 19, at his home.

John was born on Sept. 17, 1949, a son of Louis and Joan (Tardy) Martin. He attended Dirigo High School, graduating in the Class of 1970.

After graduation, John entered into the Marine Corps and honorably served his country for four years, ranking sergeant upon his discharge. He then began working at Daniels Construction before starting his career with International Paper in Jay, never crossing the picket line during the strike. He worked for Northeast Construction and David Smith during the strike and then returned back to the mill. John was an extremely hard worker who proudly worked at International Paper for over 30 years, retiring in the spring of 2014.

John was a jack-of-all-trades who enjoyed hunting and everything the Maine outdoors has to offer. John was an animal lover (especially cats) and enjoyed watching Nascar and New England sports teams. Above all, John was a family man and will be sorely missed by all.

John is survived by his wife of 31 years, Janet (Doyen) Martin; children, Patrick Finnan and his wife, Heather, of Rumford, John Martin of Augusta, Corey Finnan and his companion, Tessa, of Rumford, and Kaylee Martin of Dixfield; siblings, Melinda Murphy Brannan, Cheryl Averill, Vance Martin and Arthur Martin; five grandchildren, Kasi, Dominick, Brody, Gavin, and Rylan; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and several close friends.

He was predeceased by his parents; twin baby brothers; and a sister, Melody Martin.

Tributes and condolences may be shared by visiting his memorial wall at www.wilesrc.com.
