ORONO (AP) — The University of Maine is calling on football fans to don their finest flannel apparel this weekend to break a world record.
At Saturday’s game against the University of New Hampshire, the UMaine Black Bears are hoping to break the Guinness world record for the most people wearing plaid or tartan-patterned clothing in one place.
The school needs more than 1,090 people wearing two plaid-patterned items to attend the game to break the record. It will be giving out 1,500 plaid bandanas to attendees.
Athletic Marketing Director John Diamond said UMaine officials hope that the idea will boost attendance for what’s likely going to be a very cold game.
The Black Bears are looking to topple the No. 1-ranked UNH to win back the Brice-Cowell Musket.
