PORTLAND — Federal data shows two of Maine’s northernmost counties posted the fastest personal income growth in the state in 2013.

The Portland Press Herald reports that Aroostook County’s personal income grew by 4.4 percent while neighboring Piscataquis County saw a rise of 4.2 percent. Piscataquis has been Maine’s poorest county for several years. The national average for personal income growth for the year was 1.3 percent.

Maine’s overall personal income grew 2.7 percent for the year, according to the statistics released by the Bureau of Economic Analysis. The slowest personal income growth in the state was in Sagadahoc County, where it was 1.7 percent.
