JAY — A New York man was injured early Sunday when he swerved his car to avoid a deer on Route 133, and the vehicle struck a hardwood tree head-on and went down an embankment near Lomie Rivers Road, police said.
Joseph Slaver, 21, of Petersburg, N.Y., was driving a 1993 Dodge toward Livermore Falls when the accident occurred, police Chief Richard Caton IV said Monday.
A woman who was putting her dog out heard someone yelling for help and called police.
The vehicle had extensive front-end damage and the man’s leg was pinned in the vehicle. Firefighters had to extricate him from the car. Slaver was taken by a LifeFlight medical helicopter to a hospital, but it was unclear which one, Caton said.
Cpl. Jeff Fournier, Jay firefighters and a NorthStar EMS ambulance responded to the accident, which was reported at 2:33 a.m.
