UMF reading by Kunsang Dolma

FARMINGTON — Kunsang Dolma, a brave voice against the gender violence that Tibetan women face, will present “Finding Home: A Journey from Tibet to Maine,” at the University of Maine at Farmington. Her talk on her experiences will take place at 11:45 a.m. Friday, Nov. 14, in room CR123 in the UMF Olsen Student Center. It is free and open to the public.

Dolma is the author of “A Hundred Thousand White Stones: An Ordinary Tibetan’s Extraordinary Journey,” an account that challenges the myth of the Tibetan ideal. Published in 2013, Dolma’s memoir relates her life of hardship as a girl in Tibet, a refugee nun in India and the challenge of life as an immigrant and new mother in the U.S.

“Kunsang is a remarkable woman with an amazing story,” said Jennifer Reid, UMF professor of religion. “In spite of her journey through the worst of circumstances, she has emerged to be a champion for women’s rights and a courageous example of hope.”

This event is sponsored by the UMF Religion and Philosophy Club.
