If the following oath of office became accepted by large numbers of people, its use would become a moral imperative for public service.

In order to fulfill my responsibilities as a candidate for office or as an office holder, I voluntarily pledge, on my honor, to refuse to accept anything of value from any source other than public funds legally offered to me. Further, I will not use my personal or family funds for any political purpose. I will adamantly rebuke any individual or group financially supporting my candidacy or office in any way, whatsoever. I pledge to inform my constituents as fully as possible regarding my policies concerning the public’s business and the reasons therefore. I pledge that my votes will be based solely upon my best understanding of the needs of the people I serve. I pledge that I will avoid any personal conflict with the public’s interests.
