BETHEL — The Sport Thoma Ski Shop will host a fashion show from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, to raise money for the Ski Museum of Maine in Kingfield.

Leigh Breidenbach, general manager of the shop and a board member of the ski museum, said that 40 years ago, Jean and Paul Kailey opened up Bethel’s first ski shop, called Sunri Ski Shop, and held annual fashion shows at the Bethel Inn.

“We were recently approached about sponsoring a fashion show for the Ski Museum of Maine,” Breidenbach said. “Peter Kailey, Jean and Paul’s son, owns Sport Thoma, and when he heard about the opportunity to sponsor a fashion show, his face lit up.”

The show will showcase ski fashions from the 1940s to today. It will be held at the Bethel Inn, with hors d’oeuvres and a glass of wine or beer available with admission.

“We’re always on the lookout for classic ski fashions, especially styles from the 1940s into the 1970s,” Breidenbach said. “We’d love to see some snowflake sweaters, melton wool jackets, gentsy trousers, and waffle stompers on our runway this year.”

Tickets are $30, with all proceeds going toward the establishment of a satellite location of the Ski Museum of Maine.

“The main museum is located in Kingfield,” Breidenbach said. “By having a satellite location in Bethel, the museum could reach out to more people in the Portland area, and people who live around Bridgton, Mt. Abram, Lost Valley and Black Mountain.”

Breidenbach said the two locations would share resources.

Tickets may be purchased in advance at the Sport Thoma Ski Shop, the Bethel Inn Resort, and online at www.skimuseumofmaine.org.

According to its website, the Ski Museum of Maine was founded in 1995 and is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization celebrating and preserving the history and heritage of Maine skiing.
