LEWISTON — St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, Central Maine Medical Center and United Ambulance will host a community forum on Ebola at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 12, at the Franco Center at 46 Cedar St.
Participants will learn what Ebola is, how a person can (and can’t) get it, what local hospitals and emergency services are doing to protect the community from exposure and steps individuals can take to protect themselves from the illness and other communicable diseases.
Following the presentations, local experts will answer questions.
Just prior to the presentation, there will be an open community flu vaccine clinic starting at 5 p.m. It will take place in the downstairs room at the Franco Center. Individuals are encouraged to get a flu shot. Insurance will be accepted and billed.
For individuals paying out of pocket, the cost will be $25.
This clinic will only vaccinate individuals 4 years of age and older. The clinic will remain open during the community forum and for a period of time afterward.
Health officials at Central Maine Medical Center and St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center remind people that hand-washing is an effective way to prevent many communicable diseases that are spread this time of year. Sneezing and coughing into the inside of your elbow is another effective way to prevent the spread of airborne diseases. And getting a flu shot helps protect not only yourself, but your family and friends as well.
