BETHEL — The Mollyockett Chapter of Trout Unlimited is hosting its first public presentation of the 2014-2015 season at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, on the second floor of the McLaughlin Science Center at Gould Academy.
President Lee Margolin, who founded the Mollyockett Chapter of Trout Unlimited in 1998, said that the program will be a slideshow presentation about the different aquatic insects that trout feed on, followed by an opportunity for residents to view actual insect specimens with microscopes.
“As far as public meetings go, we try to hold at least two of them through the cold weather months,” Margolin said. “Last year in May, we helped out with the Norway Family Fishing Festival and, two weeks ago, we helped support the two fly-fishing contests in Bethel. We also sponsor the Western Maine Fly Fishing Expo.”
Those attending the presentations are typically “a smattering of people in the general fishing public, a smattering of folks who are fly-fishing oriented and a few people who are interested in getting involved in coldwater fisheries preservation,” Margolin said.
Margolin said that Trout Unlimited focuses on coldwater fisheries conservation and the preservation and restoration of coldwater habitats.
The Mollyockett Chapter of Trout Unlimited serves North Cumberland County, Oxford County and a small section of Franklin County.
The next public presentation will take place sometime in February, Margolin said.
