After reading the Mechanic Falls Council News, it seems that the people residents elected are about to make a mistake — a $3 fee for sand is being considered. Residents have already paid for that sand, along with the labor, by paying their real estate taxes.

Now, $3 doesn’t seem like much, but town officials have put the sand behind lock and key at the transfer station. If there are sloppy storms when the transfer station is not open, residents will have to do without. Then, there is the added cost of hauling it up there.

The Council should do the right thing and put a camera up to catch the people from out of town who are stealing our sand instead of making it tough for taxpaying town citizens.
