PORTLAND — George Mitchell, a former U.S. Senate majority leader from Maine, has released a new video endorsing Mike Michaud, the Democratic candidate for governor.
Mitchell, a Democrat, is the second former U.S. Senator to add their voice to the governor’s race. Former U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe, a Republican, endorsed Republican Gov. Paul LePage on Wednesday.
In a video advertisement published on YouTube, Mitchell speaks about Michaud’s ability to “truly listen,” according to a release issued by Michaud’s campaign.
“Mike Michaud listens and gets results,” Mitchell said in the ad. “I’ve known and worked with Mike for many years. He has a proven record of strong and steady leadership. Mike will work with all sides to create jobs, improve education and health care, protect our environment. Please join with me in supporting Mike Michaud for governor.”
Mitchell has also recorded an automated telephone call that will reach out directly to voters, asking them to support Michaud, the campaign’s release stated.
