KENNEBUNK (AP) — Amtrak will begin stopping in Kennebunk within the next two years.

The Portland Press Herald (http://bit.ly/1yHWmLk ) reported Amtrak will establish the stop in the spring of 2015 or 2016. The move will restore passenger train service to Kennebunk for the first time in more than 50 years.

The train will stop at an old Boston & Maine Railroad station just south of downtown. The stop hadn’t been used as a train station since Boston & Maine stopped running between Boston and Portland on Jan. 3, 1965.

The rail authority that operates the Downeaster train is agreeing to add the new seasonal stop to its schedule. It will run April through October.
