MADISON — Kayla Bess found the back of the net with 1:19 to play in the second overtime as Madison edged Monmouth 2-1 to earn a win in the MVC Championship game on Saturday.
Shannon Buzzell scored Monmouth’s lone goal with 13 seconds remaining in regulation to force the extra session.
Sydney Leblanc netted the first goal for Madison in the opening half.
Erin Whalen turned back 11 shots for Madison, while Mikayla Cameron stopped 12 for Monmouth.
Fryeburg 2, Leavitt 1
TURNER — Junior striker Julia Quinn scored both goals, including an overtime tally, to lift Fryeburg to a 2-1 victory over Leavitt.
The Raiders and Hornets (4-7-4) were locked up in a 1-1 tie at the half. Quinn’s first goal was a header from the corner with 8:10 remaining in the frame.
The only Leavitt goal came when Emmalee Duguay blasted a shot into the left corner of the cage with three minutes remaining in the half.
Quinn took a cross in the overtime frame, and headed it from the back post to secure the win.
Mt. Blue 1, Brewer 0
BANGOR — Eryn Doiron converted a pass from Hope Thompson with 1:23 remaining in the half to lift Mt. Blue to an eventual 1-0 triumph over Brewer in girls’ soccer action at Husson College Saturday.
The Cougars (5-8-2) outshot the Witches (7-6-2) by a margin of 19-13 in the contest.
Goalies Rose McLaughlin and Ellie Leighton combined for 13 saves for Brewer, while goalie Addie Schanz prevented 10 shots to earn the win in net for Mt. Blue.
Maranacook 3, Mt. Abram 0
READFIELD — Sage Hyland scored a pair of goals and Jane Elwell netted the other as Maranacook blanked Mt. Abram in a Western C preliminary girls’ soccer game Saturday.
The fifth-ranked Black Bears advance to Wednesday’s quarterfinal game at fourth-seeded St. Dom’s.
Mt. Abram (5-9-1) ends its season after its fourth straight loss.
The Black Bears outshot the Roadrunners 8-1 in the first half. Hyland and Elwell each scored goals to stake Maranacook to a 2-1 lead at the half. Hyland added another goal in the second half.
Maranacook has won four of its past five games.
Gray-New Gloucester 3, Lake Region 0
CASCO — Gray-New Gloucester avenged a regular-season loss to Lake Region with a 3-0 win in a Western B preliminary Saturday.
The 10th-seeded Patriots (8-6-1) lost to seventh-ranked Lake Region (7-7-1) earlier in the fall, 4-3.
Hannah Dixon got the first goal for Gray-New Gloucester when she cashed in on a Sarah Giggey corner kick midway through the first half. The Patriots made it 2-0 late in the half when a Maria Valente throw was redirected in front.
Late in the second half, Haley True completed the scoring, following up another Valente throw.
The Patriots advance to Wednesday’s quarterfinal at Yarmouth.
Boys’ soccer
Hall-Dale 1, Mtn. Valley 0 (PK)
RUMFORD — In an evenly matched game that saw four series of penalty kicks, Hall-Dale eventually notched a 1-0 MVC championship win over Mtn. Valley in boys’ soccer action Saturday.
Matt Crocker had a solid performance for the Bulldogs (14-1). And, Feliz Promm shined for the Falcons (13-1-1) in the losing effort.
Goalie Jacob Beauchesne made four saves for Mtn. Valley, while goalie Brian Allen prevented five for Hall-Dale.
