NORWAY — This week’s nor’easter has postponed Sunday’s Mountain Bike Biathlon at Roberts Farm Preserve.

“Post-storm conditions will be slippery, dangerous and possibly damaging to the Preserve’s grassed trails,” Lee Dassler of the Western Foothills Land Trust said in a statement Thursday.

Sponsored by the Western Foothills Land Trust, the event will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, the same day as the dry-land biathlon, Dassler said.

The Mountain Bike Biathlon combines single track and wide trails. Race entry will be free, donations for trail maintenance are welcomed.

Any SAD 17 student who needs a bike for the race should contact Pete Toohey at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School or Dassler at the Western Foothills Land Trust at 739-2124. The mountain bikes were purchased by SAD 17 several years ago through a $1.2 million physical education program grant the district received in 2011.

The grant allowed educators to revamp the physical education curriculum to emphasize fitness as a lifelong goal. Mountain bikes, along with other sports equipment, were purchased with part of the grant money.

Registration and air-rifle target practice for the Nov. 23 dry-land biathlon will be offered from 9 to 10:30 a.m. The 3x, 1k and 3x, 2k races will start at 11 a.m. followed by an awards ceremony. Air rifles are provided.

The Western Foothills Land Trust has offered biathlon competitions at Roberts Farm Preserve on Roberts Road for several years.
