The story begins 30 years after Ben and Jeeter fought together in Vietnam. As the two men come together for a last hurrah, they try to come to terms with the war experiences that continue to haunt them. Jeeter’s girlfriend and her whiskey-drinking mother add to the fierce, funny and touching reflections on the lasting effects of war and how the past continues to echo in the present.

Directed by Peter Simmel, UMF professor of theater, this UMF production is an opportunity for theatre students to “get inside the skin of the character,” according to Simmel.

“Students prepared for their roles with intensive research of the time and events surrounding the Vietnam War,” said Simmel. “It stretches the students’ understanding of the era. But in the bigger picture, this play is a reminder of what anyone whose life is touched by war carries with them afterwards. The war doesn’t end for them just because the fighting stops.”
