Is there no limit to how politicians will twist the truth to get votes?
One of Shenna Bellows’ ads says that, once in Washington, she would increase Social Security benefits and increase the minimum wage.
The Social Security Trust Fund is scheduled to go bankrupt, largely due to liberals tapping the trust fund for other welfare programs. Where does she propose getting the money to increase payments? By raising taxes?
She would have one vote. Regardless of how badly she wants to reward her constituents with other people’s money, she cannot, single-handed, pass legislation. That takes a majority.
Her ads may appeal to those who do not understand how Congress functions, but her ad stretched the truth way beyond the limit. Who would want someone so devious to represent them in Washington?
It is consoling to know that she does not stand a chance of beating Susan Collins on Nov. 4.
