LEWISTON — More than 230 residents from the Lewiston/Auburn area joined the Alzheimer’s Association’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s to unite in a movement to reclaim the future for millions on Sept. 6  at Simard-Payne Memorial Park. Participants raised more than $26,600 to fund the Alzheimer’s Association care, support and research programs.

“By participating in Walk to End Alzheimer’s, you join in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease and help us raise awareness about the challenges associated with memory impairment and dementia,” said Laurie Trenholm, executive director for the Alzheimer’s Association, Maine Chapter. “Funds raised allow us to provide programs and services for the 37,000 residents of Maine living with Alzheimer’s or other dementia, as well as support the advancement of research.”

Walk to End Alzheimer’s participants did more than complete the three-mile walk. They learned about Alzheimer’s disease and how to get involved with the cause, from advocacy opportunities, to support programs and services to clinical trials. The event also included a tribute to those who have experienced or are experiencing Alzheimer’s.
