GRAY — The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for Thursday evening in western Maine.

According to the NWS, the potential exists for heavy rainfall and isolated thunderstorms. About 3 to 4 inches of rain are expected to fall Thursday evening — which  could create localized urban and small stream flooding.

Residents in Androscoggin County are being advised to be careful, but the south and east facing areas of higher terrain are most vulnerable to flash flooding, according to the NWS.

A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. This watch is in effect through 2 a.m. Friday.
