FARMINGTON — A Franklin County grand jury indicted a Strong area man on charges he sexually assaulted a woman with a mental disability on March 18.
Joseph K. Champagne, 38, was indicted on one felony count each of gross sexual assault and unlawful sexual contact.
Further details on where the incident occurred and the relationship, if any, between Champagne and the woman, were not immediately available.
The charge of unlawful sexual conduct occurred between June 1, 2013, and June 1, 2014, according to the indictment.
A conviction on each charge carries a penalty of up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
Champagne, who was listed at the time as having a West Freeman Township address, was arrested in July by Franklin County sheriff’s Detective Kenneth Charles, according to a July 2 article in the Bangor Daily News.
