Portland Symphony Orchestra to present its first Discovery Concert of the season – “Heroes: From Frozen to Firemen”

PORTLAND — The Portland Symphony Orchestra will present its first Discovery Concert of the 2014-15 season at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, at Merrill Auditorium. The concert, titled “Heroes: From Frozen to Firemen,” will feature superhero themes from reality to fantasy, including everyone from the fictional “Frozen”’s Elsa to our everyday heroes like firemen, police officers, doctors and teachers.

Discovery Concerts give the whole family an opportunity to enjoy the music of the full orchestra together in a family-friendly setting. The hour-long performances are engaging and educational as audiences are taken on a musical journey with the PSO. The “Heroes” Discovery Concert is led by PSO Assistant Conductor and Community Liaison Norman Huynh.

The concert pays tribute to fantasy superheroes with the ever-popular “Let it Go,” from the movie “Frozen”; everyday heroes will be lauded to the tune of Copland’s “Fanfare for the Common Man.” To get the whole family excited for the performance, listen to the concert playlist compiled by PSO, available on their website.

Audiences are encouraged to come early (1-1:30 p.m.) for games, crafts, a hands-on instrument petting zoo, and musical fun for the whole family.
