In a story printed by the Sun Journal Oct. 1, Katie Hansberry, Maine state director of the Humane Society of the United States, complained that the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife was using unethical publicity regarding Question 1, the bear referendum, with advertising including the use of department employees.
I don’t see a problem with that, as long as the employees who are campaigning against Question 1 are on their days off and in uniform.
I think the department officials are intelligent enough not to use state funds. That would be a job for the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine. They should pay for any advertising.
Hansberry wants the department to stop all advertising. I think she is feeling some heat and doubts her promotion of Question 1.
The truth will prevail.
