KITTERY – Anthony Sowell amassed 122 yards on the ground in the first half Saturday, including two long touchdowns in the second quarter, and Traip ran away with a 40-6 Class D West football victory over Telstar.

Sowell scored on a 54-yard run 11 seconds into the second quarter and a 31-yard ramble less than three minutes later for a 26-0 lead.

Mike Dougherty put Telstar (0-6) on the board with a 35-yard touchdown pass to Devin Merrill, but Traip (3-2) drove and tacked on Nate Dougherty’s 5-yard TD in the final minute of the half to go up 33-6.

Traip avenged a 7-0 loss in Bethel last season.

The Rangers raced to an early lead on the strength of David Wilson’s 55-yard TD connection with Angelo Succi.

Joe Cavanaugh then picked off a pass and ran it back 39 yards to the end zone for Traip, which faces Oak Hill and Dirigo back-to-back to close the regular season.

Telstar wraps up its regular-season slate at home against Maranacook next Saturday.
