BERWICK — By air, by ground, and with some gutsy defense and special teams work, Edward Little played a complete game Friday night and picked up its first Class A football win of the season, 41-14, over Noble.

Matt Verrill threw four touchdown passes and Hunter Martin ran for a 96-yard touchdown immediately following a goal-line stand for the Red Eddies (1-5).

Noble (0-6) shut out EL for most of the first half before Verrill’s 24-yard strike to Charles Cedre pulled the Eddies even at 7.

Brandon Varney partially blocked a punt to spark the series that put EL in front. Verrill hit Thomas Cedre for a 35-yard score.

An interception put the Eddies back in business, and Verrill aired it out 64 yards to Tyler Blanchard for a 21-7 advantage.

Casey Rogers returned the ensuing kickoff 85 yards for a Knights TD, but it was all Eddies thereafter. Varney’s 30-yard kick return set up a 45-yard keeper for Verrill. Martin capped the series with a 19-yard score.

EL recovered a fumble inside the Noble 10, and Verrill took advantage with a 3-yard TD toss to Drew Lashua.

Noble drove the length of the field before EL’s defense held, setting up Martin’s exclamation point score.

Dirigo 28, OOB 24

OLD ORCHARD BEACH — Dirigo needed a goal-line stand as time ran out Friday night to stay unbeaten in Class D West football with a 28-24 win over Old Orchard Beach at Joe Regina Field.

Dirigo appeared to put the game away with a 20-yard touchdown pass from Riley Robinson to Gavin Arsenault with two minutes to go.

That made it 28-17, but OOB (3-3) drove and scored on a 7-yard TD pass from Bryan Roberts to Andrew Graves, then recovered an onside kick.

OOB took advantage of a quick strike and a facemask penalty to move inside the 5 in the final 30 seconds. Dirigo stopped a run on first down. Roberts spiked the ball to stop the clock on second down before the Cougars stuffed two consecutive runs to escape.

Dirigo led 21-6 at the half, scoring three consecutive TDs after Roberts opened the scoring with a 32-yard run.

Joe Casey’s 43-yard kick return set up a Tyler Frost 1-yard score. Kaine Hutchins later scored from 60 yards out on a counter criss-cross play.

Frost rambled 53 yards to set up his second score from 5 yards out. Hutchins intercepted Roberts to end the half.

The Seagulls took advantage of a fumbled snap and scored on Graves’ 39-yard run. Roberts’ 26-yard TD pass to Eric Hogan made it 21-18 with four minutes left.

Roberts had 213 total yards to lead OOB. Frost carried 24 times for 143 yards for the Cougars.

Spruce Mtn. 43, Gray-NG 0

GRAY — Matt Vigue racked up more than 200 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns Friday night, leading unbeaten Spruce Mountain to a systematic 43-0 thumping of Gray-New Gloucester.

Vigue ran for two scores and returned a punt 65 yards for another. Peter Theriault amassed 162 all-purpose yards, including a TD pass to Dalton Webster.

Dillon Webster added 12 carries for 80 yards and a TD. Vigue needed only nine attempts to notch his team-high 138 yards on the ground.

Spruce Mountain led 32-0 at the half.

Oak Hill 39, Boothbay 6

BOOTHBAY HARBOR — Kyle Flaherty rushed for 104 yards and two touchdowns and Alex Mace added 92 yards and a score for Oak Hill in a 39-6 Class D West football rout of Boothbay at Sherman Field.

It was 14-6 until late in the third quarter, when Flaherty ran 22 yards for his second score of the night and Garrett Gile returned an interception 50 yards to the end zone in a 61-second span.

Dalton Therrien added a 26-yard scoring run and Adam Merrill booted a 36-yard field goal in the fourth for the Raiders (5-1).

Flaherty scored from 7 yards out and Mace from 8 yards away to give Oak Hill the early edge. Jacob Leonard ran one in for the Seahawks (1-4) just before the half.

Samson Lacroix had three tackles for loss to lead the Oak Hill defense, which forced four Boothbay turnovers.

Oxford Hills 21, Deering 9

PORTLAND — Malik Geiger and Davis Turner each had a long touchdown run in the first quarter Friday, setting the tone in Oxford Hills’ 21-9 Class A East football win over Deering at Memorial Field.

Oxford Hills evened its record at 3-3 and clinched a playoff spot for the first time since 2005.

Jacob Coon caught a 38-yard TD from Max Chabot and also kicked a 33-yard field goal to get the Rams (2-4) within five at 14-9.

Patrick Macro put it away for the Vikings with a 2-yard TD catch from Matt Smith. Smith’s 79-yard bomb to Ian Lejonhud late in the third quarter set up the scoring play on the first snap of the fourth period.

Deering had a goal-line stand to end the first half and stay within reach.
