WINTHROP — Undefeated Winthrop backed up its regular-season dominance Monday, sweeping St. Dom’s and Madison to win the Mountain Valley Conference golf championship at Natanis Golf Course.

Anthony Owens shot a 35 and the Ramblers (7-0) carded a season-low team total of 152 in the win over the Saints. Taylor Morang and Adam Hachey also picked up wins for Winthrop. Justin Keaney and Nate Richard were St. Dom’s scorers.

Scores went up in the late afternoon round, but Winthrop edged Madison by five shots and won all but one individual match to take the crown. Morang had the Ramblers’ low round with 41.

St. Dom’s topped Dirigo in the third-place match. Manoli Gammaitoni’s 41 led the Saints.

Field hockey

Spruce Mountain 7, Lincoln 0

NEWCASTLE — Nicole Hamblin scored a hat trick Monday to propel Spruce Mountain to a 7-0 romp over Lincoln Academy in an MVC field hockey matchup.

Alexis Bessey added a pair of goals for the powerhouse Phoenix (10-2), while Patty Ryan and Caryn True also tallied to complete the scoring.

Grace Ryan didn’t need to make a single save to earn the shutout.

Winthrop 3, Boothbay 0

WINTHROP — Katriona Hajduk, Emma Conrad and Emily Molino each scored unassisted goals as Winthrop beat Boothbay 3-0 in a field hockey game Monday.
The Ramblers (6-3-3) scored a goal in the first half and picked up two more goals in the second.

Lisbon 1, St. Dom’s 0 (OT)

AUBURN — Molly Nicholson scored an unassisted goal with 1:43 left in the first overtime, lifting Lisbon to a 1-0 win over St. Dom’s in field hockey Monday.

Stevie Charest made seven saves for the Greyhounds (11-1), while Taylor Bergeron deflected an impressive 36 shots between the posts for St. Dom’s (2-10-0).

Girls’ soccer

Monmouth 7, Carrabec 0

MONMOUTH — Sidney Wilson and Haley Fletcher each scored three goals Monday, and Monmouth stayed unbeaten in MVC girls’ soccer with a 7-0 rout of Carrabec.

Sammy Grandahl added a goal and two assists for the Mustangs (10-0-1). Wilson, Emily Grandahl, Madison Bumann and Caroline Bonenfant each registered an assist. Mikayla Cameron made two saves to guard the shutout.

Kelsey Creamer stopped 16 shots for the Cobras.

Rangeley 3, Searsport 0

RANGELEYMichaela Shorey led a trio of players to record goals Monday as Rangeley rolled to a 3-0 win over Searsport. 

Blayke Morin and Vanessa Bisson also tallied for the Lakers (5-2-1) to complete the scoring. Maddie Egan also contributed with an assist.

Sydney Royce made eight saves for Rangeley to preserve the shutout, while Brooklyn Albert turned aside 10 shots for Searsport (6-1-2).

Madison 6, Dirigo 1

DIXFIELD —Aishah Hall led a group of five players to find the net Monday as Madison hustled to a 6-1 victory over Dirigo.

Hall led the Bulldogs with two goals, while Jillian Holden, Madeline Wood, Ashley Emery and Sydney Leblanc also tallied to complete the scoring. Megan Bradbury scored the Cougars’ (4-6) lone goal early in the second half.

Erin Whalen made two saves for Madison, while Mariah LaFleur turned aside 12 shots between the posts for Dirigo.
