RUMFORD — The Board of Selectmen on Thursday will hear a request for additional funding from the town’s Sidewalk Committee.

The board meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 2 in Rumford Falls Auditorium.

Town Manager John Madigan said the Sidewalk Committee has been meeting with a consultant to discuss the possibility of surveying the Rumford Island for possible upgrades.

“Their original plan was to look at Congress Street and find any amenities that the street might need, whether it’s new sidewalks, trees, benches or other plants,” Madigan said. “They’re looking to continue surveying all of the other side streets on the island, like River Street and Canal Street.”

The Sidewalk Committee will make a formal request for additional funding to continue surveying Rumford Island, Madigan said.

Selectmen will also appoint a new, full-time utility police officer, Madigan said, in an effort to cover for the two officers who are attending the 18-week state police academy.
