AUBURN — L-A Community Little Theatre has announced that auditions for “Greetings!” will be held Sunday, Oct. 12 and Tuesday, Oct. 14.
A “miraculous” play by Tom Dudzick, “Greetings!” is a heartwarming tale about Andy, who has a sweet Catholic mother, a grumpy Catholic father and a developmentally impaired younger brother named Mickey. When he brings his Jewish, atheist fiancée to meet the family on Christmas Eve, his worst fears are realized. But when Mickey, whose entire vocabulary has been limited to “oh boy” and “wow,” suddenly spouts the word “Greetings,” the entire family’s belief system is turned upside down as they are visited by an ancient, wise and witty spirit.
There are five characters in the play:
Andy Gorski – mid 30s. Advertising copywriter. Good guy; he loves his family but not the circus that follows them.
Randi Stein – late 20s or 30s. Andy’s fiancé. She is a confident, aspiring actress, but works full time as a waitress. Her family is Jewish but she is an avowed atheist.
Phil Gorski – 50s or 60s. Andy’s father. Very devout, patriotic, and grumpy. He was once a minor league baseball player.
Emily Gorski – 50s or 60s. Andy’s mother. Also very devout, yet loving and sweet. Perhaps a bit scattered.
Mickey Gorski – Andy’s brother, 30 years old. He is profoundly developmentally impaired, has a vocabulary of three or four words, but a smile and spirit to light up the room.
Auditions will be held at 7 p.m. both days at the Great Falls Performing Arts Center, 30 Academy Street. Auditioners are asked to bring a schedule of all conflicts they may have throughout the rehearsal process. Most rehearsals are planned for Sundays, Tuesdays and Fridays. The play runs from Dec. 5-14 and will be directed by Eileen Messina. For more information, visit www.laclt.com.
