DIXFIELD — The Dirigo Wellness Center is hosting its inaugural “Color Me Healthy” 5K run or walk at 8 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 5.

Unlike regular 5K run and walks, where people run along a set route until they finish, the “Color Me Healthy” 5K is influenced by the nationally renowned “Color Me Rad” 5K, where participants are sprayed with a substance made out of corn starch and food coloring.

Judy Horne, an attendant at the Dirigo Wellness Center, said one of the wellness center’s members had heard about his daughter running in a “Color Me Rad” marathon.

“We’ve done some regular 5K’s in the past, but we wanted to do something that was a little different than what other places are doing right now,” Horne said. “It’s unique and a good way to get people interested.”

Horne said that there will be eight different stations throughout the route where participants will be sprayed with the colored substance.

“We actually have people who sponsored us that will be spraying the powder at people using water guns called ‘blasters,’” Horne said. “It should be a really fun time.”

Horne added that the wellness center hopes to host more unique events in the future, including a “Floatzilla,” which she described as an “event where people can get in their kayaks and float down a section of the Androscoggin River.”

The Dirigo Wellness Center is run out of the cafeteria of the old Dirigo Elementary School building.

Registration prices vary depending on age and whether or not participants are in school. For more information on prices, visit https://www.facebook.com/Rsu10WellnessCenter, or call 562-7254.
