Mayer began learning to play the guitar and to write songs when he was in high school. Theological and music studies in university led to two years in seminary. After realizing that the priesthood wasn’t what he wanted to do, he became a church musical director for a decade, while performing at various clubs and colleges.
He kept writing and recording his music and then turned to touring on a full-time basis. He has never looked back and has since acquired a faithful, ever-growing group of fans. He plays gigs from his home state of Minnesota to Texas, from New England to California. He has released nine CDs.
