LIVERMORE — Friends of Livermore will hold a meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, at the Brettuns Community Building on Church Street in regard to the group trying to save the building.

The meeting is open to anyone interested in helping to preserve the nearly 100-year-old building.

Voters approved leasing the building for 99 years to the group for $1 in June.

All of the costs associated with upkeep and maintenance of the town-owned building would be the group’s responsibility.

The group’s plans for the future include addressing wheelchair-accessibility issues and to do some of the needed maintenance at the center. The building was erected in 1915 as a two-room school and was used until the elementary school was built in the 1960s.

The town stopped using the facility several years ago to hold town meetings because it did not comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
