WILTON — The Country Square Quilters of the Wilton/Jay area have announced the winner of the 2014 community quilt raffle held during the Wilton Blueberry Festival.
The lucky winner is Kathy Meador of Mount Vernon, who is thrilled to be the recipient of the beautiful queen-size quilt.
Proceeds from the raffle, $1,509, will be equally divided among four local community programs: Wilton Food Pantry, Tri Town Ministerial Association Food Pantry, Tri Town Ministerial Association Good Neighbors Fuel (Jay/Livermore/Livermore Falls) and Western Maine Homeless Outreach in Farmington.
The Country Square Quilters, a chapter of the Pine Tree Quilters Guild, is comprised of about 35 members who gather every second and fourth Tuesday from September through June for socializing and quilting.
Many items are made in support of local community services such as baby quilts for the hospital, lap quilts for nursing homes and, more recently, pillow cases for the Homeless Outreach program and the United Way.
Each year a community quilt is made by members who donate fabric as well as sewing talent and who work together to complete it.
The quilt is bed size and there is usually at least one on hand for donation in emergency situations such as devastating fires.
This year member Janet Davis suggested the raffle.
Aided by her small committee of Judi Tappan, Ellen Walter and Eleanor Durrell, the raffle effort was launched and ticket selling by members continued from May until the drawing on Aug. 2.
