DIXFIELD — Directors of Regional School Unit 10 on Monday set broad goals to assist indeveloping the next budget and establishing a five- and a 10-year plan.

The primary goals involve buildings, grounds and facilities, resource development and allocation, curriculum instruction and assessment, and family and community.

Superintendent Craig King said the goals will likely be ready for public presentation by Thanksgiving.

An ad hoc committee has reviewed every building in the district. An architect has also reviewed each building’s condition, available space and other data. King said a report will likely be made at an October board meeting.

The study, as well as the goal-setting sessions, will likely lead to restructuring or possibly closing one or more of the district’s 11 buildings.

In other matters at Monday’s meeting, Assistant Superintendent/Curriculum Coordinator Gloria Jenkins said 166 students from the high schools in Rumford, Dixfield and Buckfield are taking advanced or college-level courses in social studies, English, math and science.

Many colleges provide credit for high scores on national tests and for the successful completion of such courses, she said.

Advanced placement courses are yearlong.

The board also learned of the resignations of Robin Marshall, coach of the junior varsity boys’ basketball team at Dirigo Middle School in Dixfield, and Owen Libby, junior varsity boys’ basketball coach at Dirigo High School in Dixfield.

Cathy McDonald was hired as a special education technician at Dirigo High School.

RSU 10 includes the towns of Buckfield, Hartford, Sumner, Canton, Peru, Dixfield, Carthage, Mexico, Rumford, Byron, Roxbury and Hanover.
