PORTLAND (AP) — A new report from Maine’s Bureau of Labor Standards says 19 Maine workers died from occupational or work-related injuries in 2012.
The state’s fatality rate of 3.2 per 100,000 workers was slightly less than the national rate of 3.4 per 100,000. State officials say the rate declined one percentage point from 2011.
The report says transportation accidents were most common cause of death in the workplace at 42 percent. Vehicles were secondary causes in five of 19 deaths.
Officials say the census of 2013 fatal occupational injuries will be released in December.
