BETHEL — Police on Monday identified the woman killed in a multicar accident on Route 2 on Sunday afternoon as Arlene Shepler, 60, of Randolph, Vt.
Shepler was killed instantly after her 2006 Audi collided with two vehicles, Oxford County Sheriff Wayne Gallant said. Shepler was traveling east with her husband, David Shepler.
Their car struck a 2013 Ford pickup truck driven by John Russell of Gainseville, Texas, and a 2011 GMC pickup truck driven by David Butler of Johnson, Vt.
David Shepler was taken to Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway and later taken to Maine Medical Center.
“I’m not sure what his condition is as of today, but from what I’ve heard, he received minor injuries,” Gallant said Monday.
Russell and Butler also received minor injuries and were later released from Stephens Memorial Hospital.
Gallant said the cause of the accident has not been determined.
“For several hours on Sunday, reconstruction teams with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department and the Maine State Police assisted in reconstructing the accident,” Gallant said. “Until the results of their findings are analyzed, we won’t know the exact cause of the accident.”
Gallant said there are “no signs that alcohol use or excessive speeds were involved in the accident.”
