TUESDAY, Sept. 23
AUBURN — Political candidates forum sponsored by the New Auburn Association, 6 p.m. at Rolly’s Diner. The format will be a moderated question-and-answer session, giving local residents a chance to meet and greet potential candidates for Senate and House seats in the upcoming November legislative elections. Attending candidates will be incumbent District 20 Sen. John Cleveland and challenger Eric Brakey; Incumbent District 63 Rep. Wayne Wertz and challenger Bruce Bickford; and Gina Melaragno, Brandon Dickey and John Michael, all vying for the District 62 representative seat. Light refreshments will be served, and all residents are welcome to attend.

Candidates for local seats on the state Legislature will be briefed on topics affecting education and will be asked to state their views of those matters.

LEWISTON — Final Friday Art Walk of the summer, 5 to 8:30 p.m., downtown Lisbon Street, featuring more than 20 art galleries, special exhibits, live performances, food and drink tastings, a special performance at 7 p.m. by Maine Marimba Ensemble in Dufresne Plaza. LEWISTON and AUBURN — The Dempsey Challenge opens with packet pickup and merchandise tents, opening at Lewiston’s Simard-Payne Memorial Park at noon, a Dempsey Center open house at 29 Lowell St. from noon to 5 p.m. and the official Courage Fest party at Gritty McDuff’s Brew Pub in Auburn Friday night.
SATURDAY, Sept. 27
LEWISTON — The Dempsey Challenge will be held all day at Simard-Payne Memorial Park, with opening ceremonies at 7 a.m., the 5K Run/Walk at 8 a.m., the 10K Run at 8:20 a.m. and a Kids’ Fun Run at 11 a.m. Food and music will be available at the park throughout the day.
LEWISTON — Workshop to help parents learn how to help their child be more successful in school, 9 a.m. to noon at Advocates for Children, 124 Canal St., Lewiston, $25 per person, $40 per couple. LEWISTON — The Dempsey Challenge will be held all day at Simard-Payne Memorial Park, with opening ceremonies at 6:45 a.m. and cycling rides for the 100-, 70-, 50-, 25-, and 10-mile rides beginning at 7:30 a.m. Cyclists will leave in waves. Food and music will be available at the park throughout the day, with closing ceremonies at 3:30 p.m.
