A number of recent letters to the editor regarding candidates to the Legislature have described their personal qualities: nice person, loves animals, hard working, even “good actor,” though perhaps we already have enough actors in the Legislature.
The most important quality a person can bring to the Legislature is the ability to understand complex issues. One important issue that Maine faces is the rapid changes that have occurred in the telecommunications industry. The expansion of cellphone service and the issue of maintaining the infrastructure that supports wireless service is a technical, “wonky” subject that requires careful consideration.
State Sen. John Cleveland, chairman of the Energy, Utilities and Technology Committee, understands those issues and will continue to work diligently on that vital aspect of Maine’s economy.
His personal quality of attention to detail is much needed in the Legislature, and he will represent Senate District 20 well.
