COLUMBIA, S.C. — Army Spc. Cameron Hinkley has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises.
Hinkley is the son of Dennis Hinkley of Buckfield and Betty Dolloff of Turner. He is a 2003 graduate of Buckfield Junior/Senior High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in 2010 from Columbia Southern University, Orange Beach, Ala.
FORT KNOX, Ky. — Orin Myth has graduated from the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps Leader Development and Assessment Course, also known as “Operation Warrior Forge,” at Fort Knox.
The 29 days of training provided training and evaluation for all cadets in the aspects of military life, administration and logistical support. Although continued military training and leadership development is included in the curriculum, the primary focus of the course is to develop and evaluate each cadet’s officer potential as a leader by exercising the cadet’s intelligence, common sense, ingenuity and physical stamina.
The cadet command assesses each cadet’s performance and progress in officer traits, qualities and professionalism while attending the course.
Cadets in their junior and senior year of college must complete the leadership development course. Upon successful completion of the course, the ROTC program and graduation from college, cadets are commissioned as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army, National Guard or Reserve.
Myth is a 2005 graduate of Winthrop High School. He earned an bachelor’s degree in 2014 from the University of Southern Maine, Portland.
