RANGELEY — The Board of Selectmen awarded the maintenance for the town’s stormwater pond to M & H Construction at Monday’s meeting.

The winning bid was $24,989. The only other bid was from E.L. Vining for $48,717. The board’s original estimate for the project was $25,000.

The pond operates as a trap to settle out harmful elements from street runoff before they can enter the lake. The project is limited to the pond, with all maintenance of water pipes under Route 4 (Main Street) the responsibility of the state.

A discussion of the Water Board’s request to add two more culverts to extend drainage on Pond Street was tabled by proxy request of Town Manager Tiki White.

The three residents of Vista Lane were present to contest the proposed discontinuance of their street. The board was acting on a supposed discontinuance of the street several years ago for which paperwork cannot be found.

Municipal Clerk Ethna Thompson said that the discontinuance is not legally registered and may actually refer to the county discontinuance when the street was turned over to the town. The board reassured residents that utility services and plowing would continue this winter pending further research.

Fire Chief Tim Pellerin received approval to accept a $3,000 donation from the Oquossoc Day Dance in memory of Joanne Koob. The donation was earmarked for updating rescue equipment for the Oquossoc station, and Pellerin said that adding the money to the department’s donation reserve account would enable purchase of new rope rescue equipment, and water and ice rescue suits.

The board approved purchases from the account to not exceed $8,400. Pellerin added that this would take another project off the department’s master list at no cost to the town.

The board approved carrying forward funds from the 2014 fiscal year, with all funds staying within designated departments for designated projects. The board was informed that the High Street-School Street renovation project should be finished by the end of September.
